I got these through Amazon for around $50. They are about what one would expect for the price. The build quality is good, not amazing, and they have worked great on daily commutes. They have more room than they appear to have and the definitely stay on the bike well (others I looked at had problems with them coming off and causing accidents). The mounts work well and are adjustable, they come on and off rather easy, and the handles velcro together to make a single carry handle. I put a change of clothes (shoes, socks, pants, belt, shirt) and my lunch in them every day and it all fits. This cargo just about fills them up. I haven't used them in rain yet (we are in a drought) but imagine that they would withstand light rain pretty well.
Overall, they are worth the $50. Designed and built well, I would recommend them.

While the Avenir small panniers are exactly what the ad's explanation is, I now wish that I had gone with the larger set. It does hold my Dell laptop - but just barely.

I've used these for grocery shopping on the back of my hybrid for over a year and they've been fantastic. They've made commuting and shopping by bike so easy.

I purchased these bags to go on a Delta rear bike rack on my Felt Speed 50 for my daily work commute, and I have not been disappointed.
The individual carry handles are a good feature, and allow me to use one or both bags, both separately or connected with the hook-and-loop strap enclosure. As one reviewer posted, the securing strap on the back is elastic instead of an adjustable pull strap, but it does feel well built and not flimsy.
I can fit my work clothes and shower items in these bags, and the bags are vertically adjustable to fit more items, as well as being water-resistant (although to what extent, I'm not sure, I have yet to use them in rainy weather). I also use them to bring my stuff to the gym when I cycle there. I highly recommend these bags for the commuter or light traveler, as they hold a change of clothes and extras very well and seem built to last.
My only criticism is that I cannot center the bags on the rack or my heels will clip the edge of the bag, which could just be the way the rear rack sits on my bicycle, and the simple fix is to place the bags a few inches rear of center. Again, this may just be the design of the bicycle in relation to the size of the bags, especially given that these are small bags.
Definitely a five star rating, especially for the price.

Great small panniers for commuting Nov 30, 2008
I purchased the small Avenir Excursion panniers (1464 cu in) after having to return the larger model (1700 cu in) because my heel hit the bag, even with the bags pushed all the way back on my rack (Blackburn MTB rack). This set is small enough that my size 13 feet do not hit, even when the bags are stuffed full. The small model does not have as many features as the large, but there is ample space for clothes and toiletries on one side and shoes/lunch on the other. I really like these panniers for commuting and recommend them for people with larger shoe sizes.
