Description:

Sleek and quiet, the Eclipse 1100 HR/A elliptical cross trainer from Fitness Quest makes a terrific home workout accessory. The trainer showcases a unique, patented orbital linkage system that provides you with a smooth elliptical pattern as you work out. As a result, the trainer's quiet, low-impact stride feels completely natural and is exceptionally smooth through the entire range of motion. The machine's expanded electronics package, meanwhile, includes an easy-to-use fitness computer that tracks time, speed, distance, and approximate calories burned. And thanks to the 10 preset workout programs and two heart rate control programs, you can easily define a workout pace that's comfortable yet challenging.

Another handy feature is the 1100 HR/A's focus bar, which features built-in hand pulse sensors for immediate heart rate readings. This gives you a convenient way to keep track of your heart rate, helping you stay within the target zone and maximize your calorie burn. Other details include large, slip-resistant foot pedals designed for stability and ample foot room, a 15-inch stride length, a water bottle holder and reading rack, and a set of bottom wheels for easy transport. The trainer, which holds up to 275 pounds, measures 22.5 by 64 by 41 inches (W x H x D), weighs 90 pounds, and carries a one-year warranty.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

2Replacement coming in the mail after 2 months normal useMay 02, 2008
I take Amazon ratings into account when deciding to make a big purchase. After seeing a 4.5 star rating I felt pretty confident with this purchase. Needless to say I am disapointed that it has broken after less than 2 months of occassional usage.

It came on time and was easy to assemble. The first thing I noticed is the "Orbital linkage system" below the foot platforms. This is not very obvious in the photo which makes it look as if the foot platforms are securely attached to the wheel. Well they're not .. and there is a fairly complicated linkage system instead.

This has two negative effects and once positive: First stance is wider than other machines I've used to make room for the linkage. My wife found this to be uncomfortable, same with me. Second the fancy linkage broke on me after less than two months of occassional usage!

The positive thing about the orbital linkage system is that the machine takes up less room. I'll add that it is fairly quiet as well.

So now I need to dis-assemble my new Eclipse trainer, assemble the new one when it comes; then package up the original and send it back. Quite a pain.

P.S. I got the impression from Eclipse that this is a fairly common issue. The customer service rep knew exactly what I was talking about when I said "The linkage below the foot platform has come loose". Apparently there is no way to fix it and it requires a replacement by mail.

I hope you won't have the same problems I did.

5Worth every penny!!!Mar 19, 2008
I purchased this elliptical 3 weeks ago after reading 100s of reviews. It was deliverd to my house within 6 days, with the free shipping. I couldn't be happier. It took about 30 minutes to put together. There were a few problems with the screws not lining up with the holes but a couple pounds with the hammer and they went in fine. My partner and I have used it everyday since it was delivered and we are already starting to feel better about ourselves. Our goal isn't necessarily to lose weight but to get in shape and this elliptical, combined with strength training we get from the Total Gym 1700, will help this process along. It does creak a little bit but I haven't made any attempts to see if it needs to be adjusted because it doesn't bother me. Besides that it is a quiet and smooth workout that will help anyone get back in shape. The preprogrammed workouts are very useful and effective. The heartrate monitor is not accurate whatsoever; after 30 minutes of intense workout, it said my heartrate was 75, although my heart felt as though it was going to pound out of my chest.
If you are looking for an effective workout that you can do at home, i highly recommend this. I have paid for gym memberships for the past 4 years and seen little results because I never went. But to have the machi

4Eclipse Elliptical 1100HRAApr 18, 2007
This is a great value for appx $300 which includes shipping. I am in pretty good shape and workout in the gym regularly. I feel that I get a harder workout on this machine then the elliptical I use at the gym. Even at the lowest level of resistance you will get a good sweat and burn lots of calories. Highly recommended.

3Decent for price, computer could be much betterNov 22, 2006
This trainer works ok for the price - it works fine with me at 275lbs. However, the computer needs work - if left on manual mode, it shuts off after about 5 or 6 minutes. The only way to keep it on is to change the tension level. It serves its purpose for something inexpensive, but not nearly as nice as the gym quality models.

5Excellent ValueFeb 21, 2006
For the money...approx $300, you get a very reliable elliptical in the 1100HRA.

I took my time putting the thing together CORRECTLY and as tight as I could get everything when I bought it a year and a half ago....and the thing is still tight as a drum.

A little squeaking developed recently and I was worried....greased the inner parts, to no avail....Then I discovered it was simply the foot platforms that were rubbing. A little white lithium under those platforms and presto, like new again.

Every time I've gotten into a steady 5x per week or so routine, I've been able to drop significant weight in no time.

It works. The trick is staying focused and motivated.
