The foam roller is one of the most versatile pieces of fitness equipment. It can be used for flexibility, massage and balance training. Many fitness trainers use them as props for their Pilates, core training and sport conditioning classes. They are really effective for developing core stabilization, body balance and awareness and strength, also great for myofascial release which unties muscular knots. Foam rollers vary in widths and thickness. They are also available as half rounds, which are exclusively for balance training, half rounds will not work for self myofascial release. Most challenging is the round roller; less challenging is the half round roller with the flat side up and the least challenging is the half round with the half width flat side down.
