LIFE FITNESS IS UNRELIABLE Apr 08, 2010 I purchased the Life Fitness X8 Elliptical Cross Trainer with the advanced console seven weeks ago. The Whisper eStride technology boasts a remarkably quiet, fluid electronic stride. However, my machine made a grinding sound with perceptible vibration. It was not comfortable to use for 30 minutes.
The activity zone module stride length was a major factor for my purchase since it would allow me to vary the distance from 18" to 24" to target different lower body muscle groups. In less that two months, one of the motors malfunctioned and the machine cannot be used due to the disparate stride lengths. I cannot recommend Life Fitness due to the poor construction and unreliability.

good solid choice for a home elliptical Mar 25, 2010 We've had this elliptical with the advanced console for about 3 months now, and I love it. It's smooth, comfortable, and there are 20 resistance levels you can choose from. the advanced console comes with a polar chest strap, and it works great, and seems to be extremely accurate based on my manual tests.
I love the fact that I can pause the machine for as long as I want, as I like to do circuit workouts where I alternate cardio and resistance training. A simple press of a button to restart where I left off, and it keeps all the workout statistics. I would definitely pony up the extra $200 for the advanced console unless you really are not into seeing how your workout progresses or the some of the extra features. Entering a profile with age, weight, workout time, etc. saves you having to enter all those items each time, and are easily adjustable.
We shopped around ALOT before we got this, and both my wife and I are delighted.

This is an amazing product Jul 10, 2009 We've had ours for a few days and couldn't be happier. It doesn't have bells and whistles but I never used these at the health club anyway.
Here's the strong points 1) amazingly quiet (0 decibels), 2) same ergonomics or better than health club version, 3) solid construction (same as X3), and 4) very easy to assemble.
All I can say is wow. Got a good price $1699 for it too. This deal didn't last long (got lucky).
