One of the most durable yoga mats available, Manduka's black mat is made from high-performance material designed to endure a lifetime of yoga practice. The mat has a specific top and bottom surface. The top's sticky surface keeps feet firmly rooted during balancing poses, such as Warrior or Downward Facing Dog. The bottom side remains stable on hard floors or carpet, and won't shift or bunch up during movement. The mat's 1/4-inch thickness provides superior cushioning for the spine, hips, knees, and elbows during restful postures like Child's pose. For safe practicing, the mat's surface remains slip-free even when wet with perspiration. Measuring 71 inches long and 26 inches wide, the mat is long enough for taller yoga practitioners. Though its 6-1/2-pound weight makes it a little heavier than other yoga mats, with more weight, comes noticeably more comfort. --Cristina Vaamonde |

COULD BE STICKIERJul 26, 2008 I am enjoying this new mat. I have tried putting it in the sun to make it stickier, but maybe I have not done it enough times. The smell did not bother me, I clean it with a lavender scented non toxic cleanser. I like that it is a bit longer, I almost wish I would have got the 81". I didn't because I read it was too heavy, and I didn't want to get in anyone's way in Yoga class! It would have been fine. This one is great too! I do slip a little.
I <3 this mat!Jul 02, 2008 I bought this mat about a year and a half ago and love it! It is very thick, which makes it much more comfortable than thinner mats. It is also very sturdy, which makes it a lot better for balancing poses than the typical squishier yoga mats. I was traveling last week and had to use a mat at the studio--the squishiness and thinness of the mat made my feet hurt a lot! I bought my boyfriend the purple travel one and he liked it, but thought it was too short so then I bought him the 85-inch black mat and he loves it!
Best mat everJun 09, 2008 Simply the best mat I have ever practiced on. You don't slip, though I do use yoga toes after the first half hour.
A great mat for a serious yoga practice.Jun 04, 2008 I have never used a better mat. The "Manduka Black Mat" is stable, well made and offers a solid base on carpet and hard floors. After going through several "ECO" mats, I have come to the realization that it is better to own a mat that will last forever than to continually waste precious resources on mats that end up in the landfill after several months.
Awesome MatMay 29, 2008 Look no further for a great mat. This one is sticky and longer and wider than most mats. It is heavy, but well worth it in poses as the thickness is greatly appreciated!
