Great table for personal and professional Jan 13, 2009
I use the table for professional use (deep sports/ neuromuscular and some sweedish) but my husband loves using it for me and we would own it just for us even I didn't use it for others. The table looks very expensive and professional and is very comfortable- I enjoy just laying on it, which makes it great for amateurs too (the table is relaxing enough to do some of the work for you, especially if you add some fleece or heat). The foam lets you sink in enough to feel more like you're on a bed but also supports. You will still need bolsters or pillows for under the knees/ ankles and the neck of course.
The head rest only adjusts up and down but that is all I wanted. You can put it at any angle you wish and the face cushion is very comfortable, though the velcro should be in a different place- the covers seem to interfere with it a little unless I put it farther away from the table but this is easy to work around. The material is durable and soft. My clients love the arm rest.
It sets up very quickly- unlatch it and open it up, open the legs out, go to the top side and kneel down to hold the crease with one hand so the hinges don't bend and push it upright with the other as you stand it. It probably sounds more complicated than it is. Put it away in reverse- Pick it up by the handles and turn it on its side. Fold the legs back in and fold it in half. It latches closed. You can store the head rest, pillow and arm rest inside if you want. Adjusting height- on it's side unscrew the little knobs, take the leg off and put it in the new position, put the knobs back on and repeat to other legs.
It creaks a bit when heavier people lay on it though (over 230 lbs). But it seems very sturdy and the paperwork for the lifetime warranty came with the table. I have been using mine 3-6 times a week for almost a year now and it still looks brand new and works great which says a lot since it is wood and I live in fairly high humidity.
The foam makes it a great table for deep tissue and longer work because it keeps the client more comfortable than a more stiff or "plastic doctor office" type table and I strongly recommend this much foam after having had a table with only 2 inches. A note- this does not weigh 21 lbs!!! It weighs at least 30 lbs. I still find it easy to carry by its handles and I'm only 5'5. I really wish it had come with a case just to protect the material, and you should get one or lay a blanket down if you are going to put it in your car. It also can't release for shiatsu. If something happened to this one I would definitely buy the same one again. Master Massage has its own website if you want more specifications, the correct weight for this table or to compare it with other tables. This table is way better than other, more pricey ones. I have not checked since I bought this table but at the time, several of the tables listed on Amazon had different items that were left out of their descriptions that I didn't know about until I compared them at Master's website.
If I were more serious about massage for a career and I found one just like this that also sat up, I would probably get that one instead. Sometimes clients like to sit up a little when you are working on legs and feet, especially if they are talking to you. If they had had one with this foam and head rest but a little wider I would have gone with that. 30" is good for people under 250 lbs but some people start to get fairly wide after 250 lbs and they aren't as comfortable laying their arms at their sides in 30 inches. Another option would be those side arm supports but I haven't tried them. Amateur or professional, I definitely would get a table with this face rest (referring to the pillow type), with an arm rest, with this same type and volume of foam padding and at least 30" wide.
