Description:

Ideal for the home gym for fitness enthusiasts of any skill level, the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer provides an effective cardiovascular workout by combining upper and lower body flexibility and coordination into one impact-free motion. Elliptical trainers emulate the natural motion of your foot while supporting your heel throughout the stride, making them much easier on your knees and joints. In addition to feeling more natural while working out, regular use on elliptical trainers will increase heart and lung capacity while improving your health (and burning calories at the same time).

The Schwinn 430 offers eight computer-controlled resistance levels and eight workout programs for workout variety, including six user-profile programs, one manual, and one calorie goal program. Its quick start functions allows you to easily change your resistance level while exercising to challenge yourself to the next level. Three feedback programs--recovery mode, results mode, and body mass index (BMI)--allow you to track the progress of your workout routine. BioGlide motion technology offers a natural-feeling 18-inch stride while the trainer's BioFit design will provide a comfortable feel on the footpads and handlebars. The handlebars also feature grip heart rate monitoring which allows you to track your heart rate while you're exercising.

Additional features of the Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer include Eddy current brake resistance for smooth and quiet stopping, transport wheels to easily move the trainer across the room, and a water bottle holder to keep your hydration source close by. This elliptical trainer has a compact footprint 59 inches long by 26 inches wide by 68 inches tall.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

5using it for more than a yearJun 29, 2009
Bought it via amazon.com and I am using it for the past 1 year.. Good product.

4Great for UsJun 24, 2009
SETTING
My boyfriend and I share the Elliptical Trainer, which we have endearingly renamed simply, "The Machine." We live in a two bedroom apartment, and have The Machine setup in the spare bedroom with our computers/office stuff. Being in a second floor apartment we are concerned about the noise pollution we cause to our neighbors below. They claim that they can hear The Machine in use when there's not other noise in the room. A casual conversation or hum of a fan easily overcomes the sound.

CONS
It was hard to put together. The instructions were fine, but it can take multiple sets of hands to really get it together at some steps. I would like it if you could set up a profile with your information so that you could toggle more quickly between weights/settings for different users, but this is a minor thing to me. The screen can be hard to see in dimlight, but this is also a minor issue.

PROS
The Machine seems very solid, does not squeak (we've only had it a couple of weeks and did add some lithium grease to moving parts during construction), and has a smooth motion to it. I am 5'6" and my boyfriend is 6'1"; we both use The Machine with no problems. It is easy to move around and doesn't take up all that much space. It's quiet to use as well.

I like that there are multiple programs, settings, and levels to choose from. You can workout for a specific amount of time or set a calorie goal and go for that instead. The User's Manual has a lot of good information on it beyond just use of The Machine. There are also healthy lifestyle and eating tips.

OVERVIEW
I would definitely recommend The Machine to friends looking for an Elliptical Trainer. For the price (and free shipping from Amazon) it's a great deal on a well built piece of equipment. Now to go burn off a few more calories with it...

4Love my Schwinn 430 Elliptical!Jun 16, 2009
I meant to give this product 5 stars but missed the 5th somehow. My daughter and I put the 430 Elliptical together in nothing flat. I have one problem with a bolt fitting into a leg piece but am working with Schwinn to get a new part. Their customer service is top notch.
This unit is a very smooth ride. Even my husband starting using it and lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I would highly recommend this elliptical for home use.

5LOVE it, highly recommend!Jun 12, 2009
We love, love, love it. It works so well and my husband is a big guy, and he uses it with no problems. The only thing is that we wish that the panel lit up so you could see it in dim light or when using it at night. otherwise, we recommend this to everyone! It is a top of the line product with a much lower price and not such a strain on the wallet!!

5It's the best!Jun 12, 2009
I've had this elliptical for about a month now, still lovin' it! The stride is so smooth and quiet, no rocking or creaking! I'm using it a lot more than our old Proform - I could only stand about 30 minutes of it. I've passed the 40 minute mark on this elliptical and stop only because there's 'stuff' to do. My favorite of the programs is the 'Walk in the Park'. I also like to set it to burn a set amount of calories and then take off. The HR matches my polar and the calorie count is in the ballpark - maybe 15% higher. One caveat: if you are bigger this may not be the ticket for you. My husband is 5'11 about 200' and when he grips the HR handles the 'cardio' handles hit him in the shoulders. I think he's at the outer edge of this machines capabilities, height wise anyway. He's ok as long as he doesn't try to check his HR. Which is fine. I use my polar HRM so I can keep my hands on the cardio arms instead of the HR handles.
